Since we first met in 1962 working for the BBC I have respected Alec, initially because he helped me greatly into my new job there, then because of his professional talent and integrity and overall because we have always been 'on the same wavelength'. Our friendship endured, we never lost touch; a year ago in August we were able to call in and see him and Doreen. Anne and I are so glad that happened.
